Obituaries Thursday December 15th

Larry L. Carl, 74, of Burlington, died at 1:48 PM Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born October 1, 1942, in Maquon, IL, he was the son of Lawrence E. and Kathryn L. Wallace Carl. On August 24, 1963, he married Barbara J. Richmond in Fairfield, IA.

 

Larry worked as a conductor for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years.

 

He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1960. He later attended Missouri State College in Kirksville, MO

 

He was a deacon and faithful member of Sunnyside Baptist Church. Larry enjoyed doing crosswords, fishing, hunting, golfing, assembling model trains, guns and shooting, restoring and tinkering with his Ford Model A and collecting old gas pumps, but most of all he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with family.

 

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; four sons, John (Ann) Carl of Burlington, Wes (Marcy) Carl of Peachtree City, GA, Wayne (Meg) Carl of Galesburg, IL, and Paul (Becky) Carl of Burlington; thirteen grandchildren, Morgan, Katy (James), Caleb, Jared, Olivia (Josh), Grant, Ryan, Courtney, Alyssa, Jenna, Jacob, Aaron, and Nolan; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Aria, and Ezekiel; one sister, Patricia (Larry) Eakins of Ottumwa; two nieces Debbie Mitra and Phyllis (Bob)Thompson; and two great-nieces and one great-nephew.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one sister, Karol Carl.

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division Street in Burlington.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Carl will be 1:30 PM Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Dodds officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 

A memorial has been established for Sunnyside Baptist Church Missions.

Alfredo Garza Jr., 76, of West Burlington, died at 2:20 AM Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at the Great River Medical Center.

 

Born September 25, 1940, in Brownsville, TX, he was the son of Alfredo and Tredora Guadlupe Perez Garza. On September 20, 1962, he married Jacinta Cisneros in Oquawka, IL.

 

Alfredo worked in production at Chittenden & Eastman Company for 25 years before his retirement.

 

He was of Catholic faith.  He loved to be outdoors and was always on the go.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, caring for his own yard, and spent many hours repairing classic cars and trucks.

 

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Yolanda Garza of West Burlington, Alma (Jerry) Hogberg, Teresa Garza, Rosalinda Garza all of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert, Miranda, Stephanie, Tommy, Lucerza, Marissa, Vanessa; five great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Keondrea, Kyra, Kameron, Caleb; one sister, Florence Rocha of Dallas, TX; one brother, Erenesto (Susan) Garza of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one half-brother.

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM,  Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Garza will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 19, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 

A memorial has been established in his name.
