Notre Dame’s boys downed Holy Trinity in boy’s basketball action in the Class 1A district quarterfinals, 78-66. New London beat WACO in Class 1A 79-45. In class 2A, West Burlington fell to Tipton 78-66, losing their chance at a third district title in a row. In the Class 2A semifinals Central Lee beat Iowa City Regina with a last second shot, 60-58. Danville over Winfield-Mount Union in Class 1A, 68-28. West Branch over Wapello 75-63.
Most of the area’s wrestlers at the state tournament in Des Moines are still going after the first day. BHS wrestler Spencer Sherwood and Fort Madison Wrestlers Ryan and Harlan Steffensmeier advanced.
