Obituaries Monday March 13th

Elfrieda Marie ‘Frieda’ Beik, age 101, of Wapello, died Saturday morning, March 11, 2017, at the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.  The daughter of William and Emma Friedrick Bartenhagen, she was born on May 22, 1915 in Muscatine County, Iowa.  She married Keith H. Beik on July 22, 1936 in New Era.  He preceded her in death on December 18, 1996.

 

Elfrieda graduated from Grandview Consolidated High School in 1933.  She was a homemaker and lived on the family farm until April of 2015.  She had been a member of the Grandview Federated Club, the Lone Tree Aide, and the Keep Pace Club.  She was known for her great sense of humor and she enjoyed dancing, travelling, and her family especially her grandchildren.

 

She is survived by a son, Bill & Sharon Beik of Wapello; 3 grandchildren, Kim Burkamper of Muscatine, Lora Rash of Granger, and Greg Beik of Muscatine; 7 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; 4 brothers, Albert, Clarence, Walder, and Henry Bartenhagen; and a sister, Ella Schmidt.

 

The funeral ceremony for Elfrieda Beik will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will also meet with friends prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.  Rev. Darryl Erickson will officiate and burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery.  The family and friends will gather for a lunch fellowship at the Grandview Community Bible Church Fellowship Hall following the burial.

 

Memorial gifts will benefit the Wapello Rescue Unit.

Jim K. Manley, 75, of Burlington, died at 10:20 AM Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home.

 

Born July 10, 1941, in Fairfield, he was the son of Harold Herman and Carrie Goemaat Manley. In June of 1964, he married Linda L Campbell at Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield.

 

Jim previously worked for Arledge Transfer and then work at CF as a truck driver for the last 10 years.

 

He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959.

 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Vietnam War.

 

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed Western books and movies, “tinkerin” on various things and projects, he loved his truck and his old mercury. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Survivors include wife; two sons, Braiden M. Manley of West Burlington, Michael L. (JoAnne) Manley of Mediapolis; and four grandchildren, Cody, Abby, Melody and KaryAnne Manley.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

 

The memorial service for Mr. Manley will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 13, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
