5th seeded Iowa State downed 12th seeded Nevada in the first stage of the NCAA tournament last night, 84-73. The Cyclones advance to take on 4th seeded Purdue in the round of 32 tomorrow at 8:40.

Iowa downed Missouri State in the first round of the women’s NIT tournament, 95-74. Ally Disterhoft became the program’s leading scorer during the game. She had 21 points in the game and hit 2,061 career points, breaking a 37-year school record.

In preseason baseball action, the St. Louis Cardinals beat Minnesota 2-1. The Chicago Cubs downed the LA Dodgers 4-0. The Kansas City Royals split squad beat San Diego 13-3 but fell to Seattle 9-2.

Iowa’s second-round NIT game has been moved up to Sunday. It can be heard starting at 4:00 pm on Newsradio 99.3 and 1490 KBUR.
