Obituaries Saturday March 18th

Virgie Lovetta Laughlin, 82, of Davenport, formerly of New London, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Good Samaritan Home, Davenport.  The funeral service for Virgie Laughlin will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 20, 2017 at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Pastor Rod Cooper will officiate.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with the family present to greet friends one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery of Henry County.  A memorial has been established for Good Samaritan Society, Davenport, Iowa.

 

Darlene Louise Comstock, 95, of Hamilton, IL passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, four days before turning 96, at the River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA.

Darlene was born March 21, 1921 in rural Lomax, IL the daughter of Guy and Mary Hutson Little. She was united in marriage to Vern Comstock on July 28, 1945. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2014.

She was a graduate of the LaHarpe High School. Darlene was unendingly devoted to family and friends. Religion and church was an integral part of life. An accomplished pianist and organist, she served as pianist and organist for 70+ years for LaHarpe and Hamilton Churches.

She was an excellent cook, pie baking her specialty. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

Survivors are daughter, Jeanne (Neil) Bennett of Iowa City, IA, son, Max (Linda) Comstock of Springfield, IL, five grandchildren, Gwendolyn (Tom Rogers) Bennett of Deer Park, IL, Nicole (Michael Nguyen) Bennett of Atlanta, GA, Angela Comstock of Springfield, IL, Phil (Kristy) Comstock of Chatham, IL, Greg Comstock of Grass Valley, CA, four great-grandchildren, Griffin and Liem of Atlanta, GA and Ariana and Kenzie of Chatham, IL.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, one sister, Martha Jean Cratsenberg and six brothers, Stanley, Robert, George, Wayne, Richard and Lldon Little.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Hamilton United Methodist Church, Hamilton, with Nicholas Gleason officiating. After the services there will be a luncheon at the church followed by burial at the LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.
