West Point Couple Injured In Accident North of Fort Madison

A West Point woman sustained serious injuries in an accident north of Fort Madison Monday night. The Lee County Sheriff’s office says that a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old Fort Madison girl ran a stop sign on 180th Avenue, and was then struck by a minivan driven by 57-year-old Robert Shierbrock of West Point.

The teenager’s vehicle came to rest in the south ditch on Highway 103, and Shierbrock’s vehicle ended up facing westbound in the east lanes of the road.

Robert Shierbrock, and his passenger 56-year-old Jackie Shierbrock had to be removed from their vehicle using the jaws of life. They were transported to Fort Madison Community Hospital by Lee County EMS. Jackie Shierbrock may have sustained a broken femur, according to the accident report.

The teenager had two passengers in the truck, another 16-year-old and a 17-year-old girl, all three complained of pain and were taken to Fort Madison Community Hospital by family or friends.

The teenager was cited for failure to yield upon entering a roadway.
