Obituaries Friday March 24th

Dorothy M. Swafford, age 90, of Morning Sun, died Thursday morning, March 23, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.  The daughter of George and Abbie Cole Coon, she was born on April 7, 1926 in Morning Sun.

 

Dorothy graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1944.  She had worked at Sylvania, Leopold Desk, and LaMont Limited all in Burlington.

 

She enjoyed her plants especially the amaryllis, crocheting, and bird feeding.

 

Her family includes a son, Dale & Gayle Shuster of Independence, Kansas; a daughter, Lori & Art Hamilton of Morning Sun; three grandchildren, Crystal & Alan Crew, Yolanda Shuster, and Levi Shuster; five great grandchildren; and three brothers, Robert Coon of Morning Sun, Clifford Coon of Sundance, Wyoming, and Marvin Coon of Burlington.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Don Cole; and a sister, Pauline Stern.

 

Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2017, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun with Pastor Jeff Duffy officiating.

 

Memorial gifts will benefit the Morning Sun Community Ambulance Service.

Joyce Marie Snyder, 83, of West Burlington, died at 10:21 AM Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.

 

Born August 30, 1933, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Horse W. and Gladys May Huffman Remaly. On September 29, 1951, she married Glenn Louis Snyder in Burlington. He died July 26, 1996.

 

Joyce was a homemaker.

 

She was a member of New Hope Fellowship Church in Farmington, IL. She enjoyed shopping, crafts, painting, music, and singing.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Christina (Aaron) Bean of Elmwood, IL; five grandchildren, Joey Smiles, Jenny (Kevin) Shoop, Ashley Bean, Billy Bean, and Samantha Bean, and two that she considered grandchildren, Cody Jo Millman and Austin Lopez; three sisters, Margaret Hinman of Memphis, TN, Thelma Hill of Burlington, and Sandy (Dennis) Hunter of Ft. Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM with the family to receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM Monday, March 27, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Snyder will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 27, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Wright officiating.  Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service.
