The Burlington City Council is expected to discuss procedures for future City Council meetings during their work session tonight.
Councilman Jim Davidson requested that the council discuss procedures during their next work session. Discussion is expected to center around the public comment portion of the meeting. City Councilman Tim Scott said, during a meeting last week, that council members received an email from the city’s attorney regarding council members speaking during the public comment section in response to residents. The attorney advised council members against responding to public commenters, saying that it could open the city up to legal liability.
The council has seen several lively public comment sessions over the past several weeks on a myriad of different topics. Single speakers have, at previous meetings, gone on for more than a half hour. The council is expected to discuss setting a formal time limit on public comments.
That work session begins at 4:30 tonight at Burlington City Hall.
