Richard John Leffler, 73, of Burlington, died at 2:50 PM Monday, November 13, 2017, in Burlington.

Born September 17, 1944, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert Adrian and Edith Rutz Leffler.

He worked as a dairy farmer for many years.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School.

He enjoyed tractors, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include one brother, one sister, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Leffler will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 17, 2017, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.

Eunice P. Lewis, 92, of Burlington, died at 9:10 AM Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born August 12, 1925, she was the daughter of Bryan S. and Fosta Hawkins Lewis.

She worked as a school teacher and librarian in Kountze,TX until her retirement.

She read all of the time, and was a life-long student, obtaining her Ph.D. She also loved her eight cats.

Survivors include five nieces, two nephews, one brother and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bryan H. Lewis.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Graveside Committal Service for Ms. Lewis will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Chaplain David Plooster officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for P.A.W.S Animal Shelter in Ft. Madison.

Homer “Leon” Ikerd, 93, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 4:10 PM Saturday, November 11, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Ikerd was born August 8, 1924 near Carthage, IL the son of Homer F. and Leoma R. Barth Ikerd. On December 21, 1946 he married Frildo Mae Chewning in Fort Madison, IA. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1988.

As a young man Leon worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, Sheaffer Pen and Brakeville Commercial Fishing. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946, serving as a Radar Operator during World War II. Mr. Ikerd began working for the IAAP soon after his military service. In 1973 he started working for G.E. in Burlington, IA, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Grace Bible Church, Dallas City and the Dallas City American Legion.

Survivors include, one daughter, Shawna (Robert) Britton of Tomah, WI, six grandchildren, Darin Gentry, Bryon Gentry, Jason (Maureen) Nylin, Jaime (Greg) Shultz, Brent (Veralynn) Strawhacker and Cassie Stalsberg, nine great-grandchildren, Kohl, Riley and Delaney Nylin, Kaleb, Carter and Ashley Shultz, Gregory Webb, Trevor Gentry and Jackson Strawhacker and two great-great-grandchildren, Layton and Ayden Shultz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frildo Mae, one son, Jerry Gentry, one daughter, Linda Nylin and two brothers, Donald and Lester Ikerd.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Grace Bible Church in Dallas City with Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Harris Cemetery, Dallas City. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Grace Bible Church, Dallas City American Legion or Lee County Hospice. Mary Alice Pilling, age 89, of rural Mediapolis, died Saturday afternoon, November 11, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The daughter of Russell and Arminta Allen Harsh, she was born on July 23, 1928 in Burlington. She graduated from Morning Sun High School and from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught school before her marriage to Ray W. Pilling on February 24, 1950 in rural Morning Sun. Ray preceded her in death on June 7, 1989.

Alice was a member of the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church in rural Morning Sun and had attended Christian Women’s Club of Des Moines County. She loved to visit and care for people ministering with handcrafted cards.

Her family includes a daughter, Allison & Donald Klein of New Hartford; son-in-law, Harold Whitsell of Grundy Center; three sons, Charles & Coral Pilling of Mediapolis, James & Sharon Pilling of Mediapolis, and Paul & Sheryl Pilling of Marion; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother, Willard & Marge Harsh of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; two daughters, Constance Whitsell and Julie Pilling; a son, William Wayne Pilling; a granddaughter, Diane Whitsell; two sisters, Eleanor Cummings and Grace Coon; and a brother, Robert Harsh.

The funeral ceremony for Mary Alice Pilling will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Wiers officiating. Burial will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis with a luncheon to follow at the church.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Memorial gifts will benefit the ministry of the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church.
