The Western Illinois basketball team downed rival Eastern Illinois 56-54 at home to take home “The Axe”, a railsplitting axe that serves as a trophy for the series. Iowa Wesleyan’s men fell to Coe College 99-66. UNI beat Wartburg 72-43.

On the women’s side, Iowa beat Northern Illinois 105-80. Iowa Wesleyan fell to Coe College 66-48.

The Chicago Bulls fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder in NBA action 92-79.

The Chicago Blackhawks have put an end to the New York Rangers’ NHL season-high six-game winning streak. Former Ranger Artem Anisimov (ah-NEE’-see-mahv) scored three times in the third period of the Blackhawks’ 6-3 win at Chicago.

Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer is the National League Cy Young Award winner for the second straight year. It’s his third Cy Young total after winning in 2013. The Cleveland Indians’ Corey Kluber took his second Cy Young–he previously won in 2014.
