Obituaries Friday November 17th

Mildred Evelyn “Millie” Landers, 85, of Burlington, died at 6:04 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at her home.

Born January 16, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clarence and Florence Schlag Davis. On January 24, 1953, she married Walter William Landers in Burlington. He later passed on October 16, 2013.

She worked as a RN at Burlington Hospital before becoming a homemaker.

She graduated from Burlington School of Nursing in 1952.

She volunteered for Steamboat Day’s, at several area nursing clinics, and at the Phelps House giving nursing tours. She was a member of the Jane Delano Nurses Society and coffee club at the mall.. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, yard sales and toile painting. Mildred and her husband loved to travel and visited almost every state. She loved to watch basketball, particularly SCC and Iowa Hawkeyes games. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Shawn (Debbie) Landers of Biggsville, IL, and Kyle (Cindy) Landers of Ventura, CA; one daughter, Karla (Rick) Knipe of Fort Madison; five grandchildren, Erica (Kurt) Niggemeyer of Des Moines; Melissa Schnedler of Columbia, MO; Aaron (Amy) Landers of Burlington; Jadee (Chuck) Severs of Burlington; and Emilee Landers of Biggsville, IL; nine great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Annabell, Madilynn, and Kael Niggemeyer; Mollie and Easton Schnedler; and Riley, Parker and Brynlee Landers; two cousins, Joann Marshall of West Burlington, and Lois Brantley of Globe, AZ; and three nieces, Barbara Kimmell, Judy Lemon, and Chris Hempel.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and brother.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 2:00PM with the family to receive friends Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The graveside service for Mrs. Landers will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
