A Fort Madison man was arrested and charged with felony theft for his role in allegedly stealing nearly $139,000 from the car dealership that employed him.

The Hawk Eye reports that Randall Ray Bonar, 70, was the second person to be arrested for the theft in the past week. He was a Deery Brothers employee, as was his alleged accomplice, 42-year-old Danville resident Jeanna Jones.

Authorities say Jones overpaid commissions amounting to $138,827 to Bonar, who worked as a sales associate at Deery Brothers.

Both Jones and Bonar were interviewed by police and denied any wrongdoing.

District court records indicate Deery Brothers’ management conducted an internal audit of its business in the spring 2016. During the internal audit, employees discovered discrepancies in its accounting practices involving two employees. At that point, Deery Brothers employed a certified public accounting firm to conduct a more extensive audit.

Both could face up to 10 years in prison.
