The county compensation board is recommending a 3% raise for elected officials in Des Moines County.

Board Chairman Dan Cahill says Des Moines County ranks 16th in population in the state but doesn’t rank similarly based on compensating elected officials. The board voted for a 3% across-the-board raise to keep up with inflation.

If the recommended salary increases are approved it would cost taxpayers an additional $12,786. The county supervisors would have to approve the increases at a future meeting.

Under the proposal, County Auditor Teri Johnson would make $67,740.01 compared to her current salary of $65,767.00

County Attorney Amy Beavers would make $109,368.49 compared to her current salary of $106,183.

Des Moines County Sherriff Mike Johnstone would make $90,202.89 compared to his current salary of $87,663.

County Recorder Lisa Schreiner would make $67,108.62 compared to her current salary of $65,154.

County Treasurer Janelle Nalley-Londquist would make $67,109.65 compared to her current salary of $65,155.

And County Supervisors Bob Beck, Thomas Broeker, and Jim Cary would each be paid $37,398.27 compared to their current salary of $36,309.
