A Burlington Public Library patron walked through the library doors on Saturday and smiled as she was greeted by the Burlington Canto Chorale singing “Joy to the World” in her direction.

“I didn’t expect to get such a greeting,” she whispered.

Sam Helmick, the library’s public services manager, commented on how the library fosters community involvement.

“We have talent here right now singing carols. It’s been a wonderful holiday tradition at the library for over a decade,” Helmick said. “And then we have library events throughout the season.”

In the past week, the library hosted a painted rock event, invited teens and tweens to make ornaments, and offered creative play with Legos for elementary-aged children.

There is also a Read the Movie Book Club and a Mother/Daughter Book Club, among other opportunities to become involved at the library.

“This is a storehouse of not only information, but potential,” Helmick said. “And that potential is proven when people in the community come together.”

The library will show the Polar Express movie next Friday afternoon with activities starting at 2 p.m.
