Obituaries Monday January 8th

Jeffrey William McKinnon, 73, of New London, died Saturday, January 6,
2018 at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington. Services are pending
at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Louise “Lou” Marie Jaeger, 76, of Burlington died at 6:32 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 surrounded by her family at Great River Hospice House.

Born on January 8, 1941 in Carrollton, Mo, she was the daughter of Raymond and Melba (Lightfoot) Homan. On June 8, 1973 she married Donald “Skip” Jaeger in Stronghurst, IL.

Lou attended Kirksville High School. For 29 years she worked as office secretary for Vocational Rehab. She also worked for Dr. Gundrum, Dr. Breckner and Dr.Hugg.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards (especially pitch), meeting friends at the casino, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. She had an avid interest in genealogy and was an excellent seamstress. Lou loved her cats and often cared for strays and wild animals, such as raccoons and opossums. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and attending her grandchildren’s school functions and athletic events.

Survivors include her husband Skip, three children, Lynne Hamilton (Reiner) Gotz of Longmont, CO, Donald R. (Lori) Jaeger of Burlington, IA, and Brooke Jaeger Milligan of St. Joseph, MI; six grandchildren, Krystal Klein, Courtney Johnson, Benjamin Jaeger, Alexa Jaeger, Zachary Jaeger and Abigail Milligan; six great grandchildren, Madison, Tanner, Camden, Dailah, Maleah and Sawyer; two sisters, Barbara Lungren of Raytown, MO, Janet Smith of Bowling Green, MO; two brothers, Joe Long of Poolville, TX and Wilbur Long of Littleton, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, David, and two brothers.

The funeral service for Mrs. Jaeger will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 9th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Ron Jewett will officiate. Friends may call after noon on Monday, January 8th at Lunning Chapel. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery, RR Danville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Des Moines County Humane Society.
