First FY19 Budget Work Session Delayed

The Burlington City Council will begin discussing the budget at the first of five special work sessions next week.

The Burlington Police Department will present their annual budget at a work session following Monday’s regular council meeting. The 5-year capital improvement plan will join the Fire Department and Library budget presentations at a work session on Thursday.

A work session was originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon, however, was canceled due to weather concerns.

Work sessions will be held weekly with each city department throughout the month, the budget will need to be balanced and approved by February 9th to meet deadlines from the state.

City Manager Jim Ferneau presented his budget outlook at Monday’s regular work session, he says the city is making progress towards their goal of a 15% cash balance in the general fund, however revenues are declining and decisions will have to be made regarding several budget issues in the coming years.
