Fort Madison City Manager Gets 8% Pay Hike

Fort Madison’s city manager will see an increase in pay, and it’s larger than was originally asked for.

The City Council approved a raise in pay for David Varley, who hasn’t seen an increase in around three years. However the original 5% increase on the agenda was increased to 8% by Councilman Chris Greenwald, who noted that Varley was underpaid compared to similar sized towns. Varley’s new salary will be $115,269 per year, an increase of $13,249.

The amended motion passed unanimously, however fifth-ward councilman Chad Cangas was absent for the vote.

The pay raise went into effect Tuesday morning.
