Obituaries Saturday January 20th

Jeanine Marie Anderson, 49, of New London, died January 17, 2018 at her home.

The funeral service for Jeanine Anderson will be 3:00 Tuesday, January 23 at Elliott Chapel with Reverend Deb Kinney officiating. Visitation will begin at nine with the family present to receive friends at 1:00 until the time of service. According to her wishes, her body will be cremated following the services and inurnment will be held in Middletown Cemetery at a later date.

Doris M. Spicknall, 86, of Burlington, died at 9:00 PM Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born May 30, 1931, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph A. and Mildred Schauenberg Taulman. On November 23, 1952, she married Elvin W. Spicknall in Burlington. They loved and cherished each other until his death on July 14, 2015.

Before her marriage, she was a professional line dancer with the Dorothy Dorbin Troupe. She then worked at the Burlington Instrument Company and taught dancing at the YWCA on Fourth Street for 10 years and was the Audio Visual Secretary at BCHS for 20 years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and superintendent as well as being on the church council and head of the Christian Education Committee. She was also a chairman of Senior Saints for several years as well as a prayer chain member and worked on the Social Ministry Committee. She enjoyed being a Rock’n Read Gramma at the old Grimes School. She and Elvin delivered meals to the home-bound as well as being Hospice Volunteers. She loved her true little friend, Benji!

She graduated in 1949 from Burlington High School.

Survivors include her two sons, David W. (Diane) Spicknall of Iowa City, Cory D. (Rose) Spicknall of Muscatine; daughter, Charmin (Harold) Koenig of Durham, NC; six grandchildren, Daniel, Karen, Jordan, Rebekah, Deveraux, Molly; two great grandchildren, Cloud and Atticus; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Hollis and Eugene Taulman, and sister, Lee Pilgram.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, January 29, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Spicknall will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Hermansen officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church following the burial.

A memorial has been established for the Women’s Shelter for Domestic Abuse; checks can be made payable to the YMCA with the word “shelter” written in the memo.
