Around 150 people took part in an event to celebrate cultural diversity at Southeastern Community College on Friday evening.

The Chinese New Year event was held in the little theater at Southeastern Community College, and featured an endless buffet of traditional Asian cuisine, a presentation on Asian New Year traditions, musical performances, dances, and fun and games to entertain the crowd that lasted well into the night.

The International Programs Specialist for the college, Jessica Snowden said that there are around 30 international students currently enrolled at Southeastern Community College, the event was organized by some of those students and their families to celebrate their culture with fellow students and the community.

The Chinese New Year is based on a 12-year animal zodiac cycle, 2018 is the year of the dog. Presenters discussed the Chinese Spring Festival, mythology behind the events, and numerous other aspects of the culture.
