Obituaries Friday February 23rd

Shirley Kindig, 90, of Burlington, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018. The memorial service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Glenn Dockendorff, 96, of Danville, died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.

The funeral service for Mr. Dockendorff will be 10:30, Monday, at the Danville United Methodist Church with Pastor Tamara Wirt officiating. Visitation begins at noon Sunday at Elliott Chapel, with the family present from 2 – 4 PM. Interment will follow the service at Jaggar Cemetery. Paul R. VanArsdale, age 70 of Raritan, Illinois, passed away at 10:49 a.m. Thursday February 22, 2018 at Oakwood Estates Assisted Living Center in Stronghurst. He was born May 27, 1947 in Monmouth, IL, the son of James and Helen Randolph VanArsdale. On November 13, 1976, he married Connie Kay Atteberry in Burlington, IA. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2012.

Paul was a graduate of Media-Wever High School in Media, IL. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he farmed for many years near Raritan. He was very active in many community affairs and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities. He was a member of the National Cornhusking Association, the Stronghurst American Legion, and the Raritan Reformed Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Amanda (Peter) Rousonelos of Stronghurst, IL, Jenny (Miles) Stevenson of New Boston, IL, Amy (Joe) Candelaria of Grandview, MO, thirteen grandchildren, Brynna and Addison Setiz, Kaylyn, Chloe, Henna, Josiah, and Elsie Stevenson, Lila and Elliot Candelaria, Gus, Madelyn, Anna, and Seth Rousonelos, and four sisters, Diana (Jim) Denly of Erie, CO, Barbara Minssen of Bettendorf, IA, Dolores Butler of Macomb, IL, and Cynthia Vilardo of Greenville, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one sister, Terecia Torrance.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday February 26, 2018 at the Raritan Reformed Church with Rev. Terry Muller officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Raritan Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Raritan Reformed Church.
