The SCC Blackhawks fell to Iowa Western in a 97-81 loss in Council Bluffs Wednesday. The loss knocks the Blackhawks out of the Region XI basketball tournament. Iowa Western advances to the finals against Ottumwa’s Indian Hills basketball team

The Big Ten opened a five-day run at the “Mecca of Basketball” with Jordan Bohannon leading Iowa past Illinois 96-87 on Wednesday night. Bohannon scored 25 points and had six assists, including a bounce pass to Luka Garza for a jam with 34 seconds left to keep the Illini at bay.

The Houston Rockets now have their second 14-game winning streak of the season following a dominant first quarter in Wednesday’s 105-92 win over the Clippers at Los Angeles.

The Twins and designated hitter Logan Morrison have finalized a one-year, $6.5 million contract that includes a 2019 club option that can become guaranteed. Morrison hit 38 home runs in 2017 for Tampa Bay.

The Bears plan to part ways with quarterback Mike Glennon. General manager Ryan Pace said the Bears will release him rather than bring him back for a second season after he lost his starting job to rookie Mitchell Trubisky.
