A car collided with a train near the Hill Correctional Center on Linwood road in Galesburg around 12:15 this (Tuesday)afternoon, resulting in the death of the driver of the car.
Witnesses say the car drove around other vehicles that were stopped at the crossing and was struck by the train. The impact caused the car to burst into flame and one car of the train was derailed as well. Galesburg fire chief Tom Simkins says that the department responded and extinguished the car fire.
The name of the victim has not been released.
