Fort Madison City Councilman Resigns Following Sentencing for Drug Charge

Fort Madison’s third-ward city councilman has submitted his resignation.

WGEM News reports that 42-year-old Travis Seidel, a city councilman who was arrested on felony drug charges in December has resigned.

Court records show that Seidel recently pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance charges and received a three-year deferred sentence. He remained an active councilman throughout the judicial process.

Narcotics Task Force officials identified the substance as hydromorphone, an opioid manufactured from morphine, in a December press release.

The Fort Madison City Council will meet on Tuesday at 5:30, it’s unclear if the issue will be addressed at the meeting.
