Obituaries for Friday July 6th

Marjorie “Marge” Lorraine Bauer, 96, of Burlington died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born November 23, 1921 in Arcadia, Iowa she was the daughter of Harry William and Agnes Catherine (Hagge) Frank. She married Lowell Henry Bauer on May 25, 1944 in San Diego, California. He died June 7, 1995.

Marjorie was a graduate of Arcadia High School and earned her teaching certificate at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Before her marriage she was a rural school teacher in the same school she attended as a child in Carroll County, Iowa.

Marjorie, alongside her husband owned and operated Bauer Mobile Homes and Western Pines Mobile Home Park. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, St. Francis Auxiliary and Burlington Medical Center Auxiliary.

She enjoyed bowling on many area leagues and was an accomplished seamstress and cook. She volunteered for many years at the Knights of Columbus in the kitchen and for bingo games. She loved her many years spent with her husband at their cabin on the Mississippi River. She loved traveling throughout the United States with her family. She, along with her son are the only ones in the family that travelled the entire Mississippi River on the American and Mississippi Queen riverboats. She had a steadfast love and devotion for her children and grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and extreme wisdom that she lovingly passed on to her them.

Survivors include her four children; Beverly (Harlan) Hatch of Huntington Beach, California, Arlys Cecconi of Yorktown, Virginia, Carleen (Ron) Nollen of Burlington and David (Lori) Bauer of Lewisville, Texas; six grandsons, Joel Walker of Davenport, Quinn Bauer and Pierce Bauer both of Lewisville, Texas, Aaron (Melissa) Hatch of Las Vegas, Nevada and David and Matthew Hatch of California; one great grandson Wyatt Hatch; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, two brothers and son-in-law, Tony Cecconi.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Bauer will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 10th at Divine Mercy Parish, SS Mary & Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A Christian Wake will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 9th at Lunning Chapel with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m.

Larry Eugene Hoenig, 69, of Burlington, died at 5:29 PM Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born December 10, 1948, in Burlington, he was the son of Bernard and Lorraine Mary Ertz Hoenig. On November 21, 1970, he married Kathryn Anne Uecker in Burlington.

He worked at Champion Sparkplug as a manufacturer for 32 and a half years.

He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, serving his country for 32 and a half years.

He was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He enjoyed golf, traveling, reading, baking and “Da Bears”. He loved to spend time with his wife, kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of Burlington; one daughter, Jill Morey of Burlington; two sons, Andy (Christine) Hoenig of Mt. Pleasant and Brad (Jennifer) Hoenig of Burlington; six grandchildren: Megan, Jarrett, Matthew, Caleb, Emily and Grace; two sisters, Colleen (Darrius) Baker of Phoenix, AZ, and Tara (Paul) Koestner of Centerville, IA; one brother, Jerry Hoenig of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kenneth Hoenig, and one sister, Collette High.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, July 6, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Memorial Service for Mr. Hoenig will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 6, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Iowa National Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Village Co-Op in the Commons Room following the burial.

A memorial has been established for the Retinitis Pigmentosa International Organization.
