The West Burlington School Board met Monday night with a fairly light agenda to work with.

The board approved the list of open enrollment students and acknowledged that about 29 kids were not accepted into classes in the district due to limited class space. The district will have three first and third grade sections for the coming year.

Superintendent David Schmidt updated the board on recent new hires and the board approved adding the employees which according to Schmidt means they are ready for the coming school year. Schmidt also updated the board on the progress of summer projects. He reported the kitchen remodeling is nearly complete and the new appliances will be installed this coming week. He also discussed a joint project with the school and city of West Burlington, where by the city provides labor on some concrete work and the district pays for the materials. Schmidt thanks the city for their cooperation and cost savings to the school system.

The district is looking for an associate for the corners program and will also continue the summer hot lunch program into the coming year as well. Finally, the superintendent and administration will be working on a formalized security plan that will be presented to the board before the Holiday break this winter.
