Investigation into U of I College of Dentistry Produces Results

Auditor of State Mary Mosiman led and completed a report on a Special Investigation into the University of Iowa Department of Periodontics in their College of Dentistry. The school’s financial records from August 1st, 2012 up until August 31st, 2016 were identified and investigated. Procedures conducted included reviewing data gathered in concern of charges brought against former Administrative Specialist Amanda Shumaker and interviewing personnel to garner an understanding the way in which Miss Shumaker completed her duties when in the administrative position she previously held.

The investigation identified improper use of $57,313.36. The report states, “The procedures also identified concerns related to the review and approval of procurement card purchases.” After completion, this report was filed with the Board of Regents’ Office of Internal Audit, the Attorney General’s Office, the Division of Criminal Investigation, the University’s Department of Public Safety, and the Johnson County Attorney’s Office.
