Pastor Paul Hughes, 92, of New London, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at
Great River Hospice, West Burlington.  Services are pending at Elliott
Chapel, New London.

Samuel W. Stevenson, 83, of Gladstone, IL died at 12:10 PM Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at home.
Born October 22, 1934 in Carman, IL he was the son of Arthur Wendell Stevenson & Esteline G. Munson Stevenson Griffin.
He married Bernita M. Weigert of New London, IA on September 28, 1957. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary last year.
He was a graduate of the Gladstone-Oquawka High School in 1952. After graduation he worked one year at the Iowa Ordnance Plant and in 1953 enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served 16 months in Korea. He was discharged in 1956 having attained the rank of Buck Sergeant.
After he was discharged he returned home and became a life-long farmer of the family farm. In his early years he served on the ASC Board in Stronghurst, IL and was a member of the Carman Methodist Church and Hend-Co Hills Country Club. He loved animals and always adopted the stray dogs and cats that came to the farm. He was very much a family man and loved socializing with all his friends and relatives. They knew they could always count on him for help. He collected Native American artifacts that he found on the farm, liked to play cards, attend all the activities of the children and grand-children, liked to watch-old time movies and listen to country music. His favorite singers were George Strait and Patsy Cline.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Bradley (Lynne) Stevenson of Galesburg, IL & Brian Stevenson (Sherri Marshall) of rural Gladstone, IL, five Grand-Children, Paige & Tyler Stevenson of New London, Haley, Chelsea & Riley Stevenson of Galesburg, IL, three sisters, Berniece Pettinger of Burlington, Marie Meeker of Mediapolis, Angeline Anderson of Dunnellon, FL, three sisters-in-law, Nancy Stevenson of Gladstone, IL, Kay Stevenson of Oquawka, IL, Dolores Stevenson of Burlington, as well as several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grand-parents, parents & four brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gladstone Methodist Church or Henderson County Health Department Hospice.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Sunday, July 24, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Stevenson will be 10:00 AM, Monday, July 23, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Ross officiating. Burial will be in Carman Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Gladstone Methodist Church following the burial.
