Tom Stuart Hainey, 71, of Burlington, died at 8:45 AM Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington.
Born December 31, 1946, in Muscatine, he was the son of Vern Lee and Ruth F. Partington Hainey.
Tom was a welder/fork truck driver at J.I. Case Co for 30 years before retiring.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from January 31, 1964 until January 20, 1967.
He was a member of the UAW local #807 and a past member of the Lions Club in Illinois and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed working with livestock, the outdoors, the Dallas Cowboys, reading westerns, listening to country music, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. Tom dreamed of owning his favorite car; a 1957 Ford Thunderbird.
Survivors include his two daughters: Christina (Scott) Erickson and Kimberly Orton both of Burlington; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, Lee (Mona) Hainey of Wapello; four sisters, Nancy Wehage and Barbara Beeding both of Wapello, Betty Bockman of Zephyr Hills, FL, and Kathy Wickham of Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews; and his life-long friend, Jack West.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers-in-law: Jerry Wickham, Bill Beeding, Dale Wehage, and Bill Bockman.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Monday, August 13, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Hainey will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 13, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Fratt officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. . Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Autism Speaks and the Alzheimer’s Association.
