How much watermelon could you eat if it was free? If you would like to find the answer to that question then you need to head to Montrose this weekend.
For the 74th year the community is hosting the Watermelon Festival. There is a lot more food there than watermelon, vendors offer the tradition fair food. And speaking of vendors, there are lots of people set up with unique, hand made and one of a kind items for your shopping needs as well.
Quinn Rudd is a volunteer at the event and he says that by early Friday night, they had given away a lot of free watermelon, about two tons of it in fact. By the end of the weekend, Rudd says they will give away eight tons. And yes it is free and yes you can eat as much as you want.
There is a carnival and lots of events including the ever popular watermelon eating contest. Rudd says there are not any rules.
The fun and free watermelon runs through Sunday in Montrose.
