The pre-trial hearing for Antonio Sanchez was held today (Monday) in the Hancock County Courthouse. With the Judge handing down three decisions.

The State had asked that the use of the 911 call from the night of the incident be limited, since they intended to call the dispatcher as a witness. Another decision involved the use of PowerPoint presentations during the trial. And the third was a request by the defense to not allow the victim’s family in the court room during testimony. Drew Schnack, attorney for Sanchez has asked the judge to bar family members from the proceedings since he expected to call some of them as witnesses. The judge sighted an Illinois State Law that allows the family to be present. The judge did say if anything out of the ordinary was to arise during the trial, he would address it and make changes.

According to Schnack, Sanchez was offered a plea deal that would have reduced his sentence to 75 years, peeling 25 off the potential for 100 years if he is found guilty. Schnack says that Sanchez rejected the offer.

The two sides are working on jury selection and planning on a trial to begin September 10th.
