The West Burlington School Board met on Monday night. The board had a fairly short agenda but heard about the start of the school year from administration.

Elementary Principal Theresa Kirkman told the board that the board that the elementary staff was continuing with the plan began last year that considers the entire mind in learning. The teachers engage the visual, emotional as well as the thought process to enhance the learning experience for children. The teachers also use common language and vocabulary so the child can transition from one class to another with ease.

Assistant Junior High and High School Principal Mike Jones said the staff was recently exposed to a learning experience about child development and crisis intervention on children. He said the discussion better prepared the teachers to deal with students with problems, by understanding the impact that life events can have on development of the brain.

The board heard from Superintendent Schmidt, that informed them with the boards action to approve the consent agenda all positions in the school system are filled. He also updated the board on the completed projects for the summer. And praised the administration and staff for being prepared for the school year.
