Kathleen Elizabeth Swander, 81, of West Burlington died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in her home.

Born July 26, 1936 in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Webster Harvey and Florence Elizabeth (Pearson) Eads. She married Albert Leonard Swander on September 30, 1972 in Burlington. He died February 20, 2004.

Kathleen worked as a Secretary for 33 years for the Des Moines County Department of Human Services. She retired in 1988. She was a graduate of Huron High School and attended Burlington School of Business. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was an avid sports fan, primarily girls’ softball. She was known to attend and even travel to out of town games to watch. She loved watching TV, playing games and going out to eat with her extended family. She was very devoted to caring for her mother and husband and cherished her dog Pierre.

Survivors include two nieces; Nance Tucker of Peotone, Illinois and Karen Shannon of Ocean Side, California; niece-in-law, Nancy Eads of West Point, Iowa; sister-in-law Ellen Eads of Kankakee, Illinois; two great nieces and two great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, James Eads and two nephews, Jim R. Eads and Michael Eads.

The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Swander will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1st at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Ryan Cosgrove will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church.

Lisa Hall, 51, of La Harpe, died at 7:04 AM Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born December 13, 1966, in Macomb, IL, she was the daughter of Mason Dayne and Cecilia Catherine Leighty Hall. On May 24, 1997, she was united in life with Robbin Todd as soul mates.

Lisa enjoyed watching Demolition Derby races and NCIS, she liked to cook and go fishing. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include her mother, Cecilia; life partner, Robbin of La Harpe, IL; one daughter, Christina Hall of La Harpe, IL; two brothers, Thomas (Michelle) Hall and David (Tina) Hall both of Burlington; one grandson, Mathias Wisener; her chosen sister, Jessie Reynolds of Burlington; four nieces: Brianne, Katie, Kyra, and Julia; one nephew: Kyle; many great-nieces and nephews; several cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Friday, August 31, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Lisa will be 6:00 PM Friday, August 31, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Carolyn Todd officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory.

Esther Melvin Shoemate, 87, of Macomb, IL passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb.

She was born January 3, 1931 in LaHarpe, IL, the daughter of Lyle Franklin and Ethel Louise Schultz Melvin. On May 29, 1948 she married Bill Shoemate. They later divorced.

Esther was raised in LaHarpe where she attended school through her junior year and graduated from the Warsaw, IL High School. She then attended the College of Commerce in Burlington, IA. She worked at the Post Office in Table Grove, IL, and for 21 years she worked as a bookkeeper for Farm King in Macomb. She served as the Farmers Township Auditor for 2 terms and was also the treasurer for the village of Table Grove. She was a member of the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb.

Surviving are one daughter, Carol (George Newman) Dodds of Plymouth, IL, one son, William (Janice) Shoemate of Quincy, IL, five grandchildren, Lexy Deford, Matt and Jamie Dodds and Sarah and Alex Shoemate, two great-great-grandchildren, James Robert Dodds and Kayden Alexander Dodds, one sister, Erma (Monte) Geddes of Mediapolis, IA, one niece, three nephews and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Melvin and her parents.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Donnie Case officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 1:00 PM Wednesday until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the Maple Avenue Christian Church.
