The Burlington School Board met Monday night, Superintendent Pat Coen was enjoying a vacation and was not in attendance. Cory Johnson filled in for Coen, filling to board in on some of the activities in the district.

The Board approved the agreement with Southeastern Community College that allows BHS students to take college classes on the Burlington Schools Campus.  The program negates the need for students to travel to SCC or have an SCC instructor travel to BHS to teach the classes. Johnson told the board that this arrangement sets the school apart from others, since most other schools require the students to travel to the SCC campus to take classes. It also gives teachers in the district the experience at teaching college level classes.  The one year cost to the agreement is between forty and eighty thousand dollars after state reimbursement.

The board also discussed the upcoming public meetings for public input on the “right-sizing” project the district is currently going through. The board agreed to have at least three public meetings, one each in the morning, evening and on a weekend. The board plans to also meet with staff for their ides and thoughts on the project. The final dates will be decided at the next board meeting. The goal is to make final decisions on how to reorganize the district at the December 17th meeting after getting as much public feedback as possible.
