Obituaries for Monday October 8th

Ruth Marie Kuepper, 97, of Burlington, died 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born August 23, 1921 in Cadillac, Michigan she was the daughter of Roy E. and Mildred (LaVeine) Watson. She was a 1939 graduate of Cadillac High School and a 1943 graduate of Mercy Hospital Nursing School in Burlington. She married Henry P. Kuepper on October 25, 1944 in Avon Park, Florida. He died May 14, 1990.

Ruth was a registered nurse. She worked in the surgery department at Mercy Hospital and Burlington Medical Center. She retired from Burlington Surgeons Inc. in 1989. After her retirement she returned to work for J.I. Case for 10 more years.

Ruth was a baseball fanatic! She loved watching the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame football. She enjoyed reading and completing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her four children; Christine M. (David) Swaim of Cherry Valley, Illinois, Phillip (Mike) Kuepper of Connecticut, Jane (Tim Gardin) Kuepper of Burlington and Amy (Ed) Schulte of Muscatine; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.

The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Kuepper will be 1p.m. Wednesday, October 10th at Messiah Lutheran Church. Rev. Susanne Smith will officiate. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Loris Ellen “Susie” Meeker, age 90, of Burlington, died Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

The daughter of Charles Herman and Margaret Helda Bohlen Schulte, she was born on October 10, 1927, in Peoria, IL. She married Clyde Edwin Meeker on June 10, 1950 in Easton, Illinois.

She graduated from Sherman Valley High School in Easton, IL in 1945. She attended Normal University, received a teaching degree and taught school two years in Easton. Her husband farmed near Manito, IL and in 1959, they moved to Oakville, IA. In 1993, they moved to Mediapolis.

Susie was a devoted wife and mother, an avid reader, and enjoyed embroidery. She was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four sons, Kenneth Meeker of Mt. Carroll, IL; Charles Meeker of St. Charles, MO; Richard (Carol) Meeker; and Randy (Christina) Meeker both of Burlington; one daughter, Claudia (John) Schweizer of Ft. Collins, CO; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman Schulte of Williamsville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; her parents; a brother; two sisters; and three sons, Scott, William and Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Monday, October 8, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Loris “Susie” Meeker will be 11:00 AM, Monday, October 8, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Zeleny officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the benefit of Burlington Public Library and Kingston Methodist Church.

Donald Paul “Butch” Kobs, 85, of Danville, died Friday, October 5, 2018 in West Point.

Peggy Lynn Pullins, age 57, of Stronghurst, IL, passed away Friday October 5, 2018 at her home. She was born February 17, 1961 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Donald and Rosada Jane Feikert Carnes. On November 2, 1993, she married Daniel Lynn Swisher. They later divorced. On May 19, 2007, she married James G. Pullins. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2018.

Peggy was a 1979 graduate of Southern High School in Stronghurst. Following high school, she worked at Methode Electronics in Carthage, IL for several years. After Methode closed, she attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, IA, where she earned her Associate Degree. She currently worked as a Title I Associate for West Central School #235 North Campus in Biggsville. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed visiting her son, Zach, cooking, gardening, caring for her cats, and doing anything outdoors. She was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Zachary Swisher, of Chatham, IL, one brother, Donald (Carla) Carnes of Media, IL, three sisters, Donna (Terry) Painter and Treasa Pence, both of Stronghurst, and Bonnie Jo Carnes, of Chapel Hill, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Pullins, ex-husband, Daniel Swisher, and one brother, James Edward Carnes.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday October 9, 2018 at Banks & Beals, with Steve Minkler officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery.
