It is truly a national epidemic, the misuse of prescription drugs. In 2016 a national survey found that 6.2 million American misused prescription drugs and in many cases, they obtained the controlled substance from family and friends.  The effort to reduce the amount of unused and old medications in the house, thus reducing the potential for substance abuse is the idea behind the “Drug Take-Back Day” that happens twice a year. The next event is set nationwide for October 27th.

Locally, the Des Moines County Narcotics Task Force in cooperation with Des Moines County Law Enforcement Agencies will be holding an event at the Slumberland parking lot on Agency Street from 10 AM to 2 PM.

In Lee County, the Narcotics Task Force and Lee County Authorities will be accepting old or unwanted prescription or over the counter medications at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Montrose.

All prescription and over the counter medications will be accepted, other than inhalers and any opened or used sharps.
