A former Mediapolis resident and 2003 Iowa Pork Queen is under investigation for allegedly misappropriating funds in her job as the Dean of Southwestern Community College in Creston.

The Creston News Advisor reports that Kulow has been named as the subject of an investigation into the misuse of college funds for personal expenses. An audit was performed by Denman and Company, which identified around $15K of expenses that don’t appear to be related to college business.

The report says Kulow spent around $7K of college money on personal travel expenses, and another $8K on personal purchases. Some purchased items reportedly purchased included gifts given out to guests at her wedding reception, a “mystic genie” costume, spa gift certificates, and birthday party supplies.

Kulow resigned as the Dean of Student Services at Southwestern Community College on October 3rd. News articles say she has reimbursed the college $15,064 by personal check. No charges have been filed yet, although they could be pending.

The audit report is available at the state auditor’s website.
