The Burlington Fire Department reports they responded to a house fire at 14369 Skunk River Road in Union Township south of Burlington at around 3:30 this morning.
According to the press release, the house sustained heavy smoke and heat damage. The owner of the home and his girlfriend were able to escape the house after the family dog altered them. Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at around $95,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Burlington Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Wever, Denmark, Gladstone and West Burlington Fire Departments, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and Superior Ambulance were also at the scene. According to Fire Marshall Mark Crooks, firefighters left the scene at around 6:50 this morning
