Lost Debit Card Leads To Drug Arrest

The victim of a lost debit card reported to the Burlington Police Department that the card had been used at a number of locations including 14 charges at a gas station in less than 3 hours. Officers check video surveillance at the Shell Station and saw two women and child enter the store and pick up the card that had been dropped on the floor. Police say both women made purchases using the card. Video also showed the car and license plate, the owner of the car was identified, resulting in a search warrant.

Police served the warrant and searched the home of 28-year-old Sharaya Brown, who admitted to police that she had found the card and used it. During the search a shoe box was discovered under a bed, the box contained marijuana packaged for sale and a digital scale. Also in the box a bed that contained a loaded .38 caliber revolver. Officers knew that a six-year-old child was resident in the home and would have had easy access to the shoe box.

Brown admitted to police that the marijuana was hers and she had planned to sell it to make money. She also told police that the gun had belonged to the father of her child who is deceased.

She is charged with unauthorized use of a credit card, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a drug tax stamp violation and child endangerment. Brown was taken to the Des Moines County Jail, she is currently free on a $5000 bond.
