Obituaries for Wednesday December 19th

Joseph E. (Joe) Perry, 53, of Burlington, died at 1:51 PM Monday, December 17, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Joe was born January 28, 1965 in Burlington, the son of Richard and Jean (Carlson) Perry.

Joe graduated from Notre Dame High School and was employed by the United States Postal Service for 34 years. He was so grateful for that job. He was of Catholic faith.

Joe was hearing impaired from birth and had many friends, teachers, fellow employees, family, doctors and nurses who were so understanding through the years.

Joe enjoyed visiting with his many cousins and friends and always wanted to know how each and every one of them was doing and all about their families. He also enjoyed watching the cooking channels on TV, pizza, shopping, visiting casinos and Bud Light beer in a short glass.

Those surviving Joe are, his parents; brother, Wayde (Becky) of Burlington; sister, Danielle (Trey) Eason of Waukee, IA; brother-in-law, John (Kristina) Link of Marion, IA; niece Nicole (Tyler) Bechtold of Alton, IL; nephews, Lane Perry of Des Moines, IA, and Perry and Drew Eason of Waukee, IA; great-nephews, Trent and Brier Bechtold; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, sister, Nadine Link, and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Memorial Service for Joe will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with the Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service.

A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House, Divine Mercy Parish and Garrett’s Path.

Larry Eugene Pender, 77, of Burlington, died at 4:47 PM Monday, December 17, 2018, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington surrounded by his family.

Born August 16, 1941, in Milton, IA, he was the son of Phil F. and Velma Carter Pender. On April 28, 1964, he married Barbara Jean Adams in Memphis, MO.

Larry worked for Philco Ford in Fairfield and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1960 until 1963.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Burlington; two sons, Kevin Pender of Donnellson, and Kenneth (Tracy) Pender of Burlington; daughter, Karen (Gail) Hoskins of Kirksville, MO; brother, Leo (Pat) Pender of Moline, IL; two sisters, Marcella (Bill) Prevo of Bloomfield, IA, and Marlene (John) Henry of Memphis, MO; and four grandchildren: Gauge, Mikenna, Treah and Hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mildred, Marge, and Mary; and four brothers, Lester, Lawrence, Lowell, and Lynn.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Larry will be 2:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Tracey Burgus officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Milton Sunnyside Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the continued care of the Milton Sunnyside Cemetery.

Rosa Mae Harris, 78, of Burlington, died Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born January 6, 1940 in Belzoni, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Robert Russell and Lela (Hales) Powers. She married Glenn J. Harris on August 29, 1959 in Burlington.
Rosa Mae was a member of the Burlington Church of Christ. She was a faithful Christian leaving behind a legacy of faith and values. She loved spending time with family, playing games at family gatherings resulting in good laugh until you cry “belly laughs” and being involved with her grandchildren’s lives. She enjoyed walking at the mall and shopping. One of her favorite things as a servant of God to do was to visit shut-ins. Her kind words, positive attitude, and generous heart have made a difference in the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband Glenn Harris of Burlington; one daughter Brenda (Dave) Kirchner of Rock Island, Illinois; one son Jay (Joi) Harris of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Kirchner of Kittery, Maine, Josh Kirchner of Rock Island, Illinois, Justin (Haylee) Harris of West Burlington, Joel (Teylor Norris) Harris of West Burlington and Jordan (Jamie Forrett) Harris of Burlington and one great granddaughter Harlee Jo Harris.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Jimmy, Tommy and Albert Powers.
The funeral service for Mrs. Harris will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 21st at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. David Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
