Obituaries for Monday December 24th

Doris Hoelzen, 89, of Burlington, died Sunday, December 23, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 16, 1929, in Neenah, WI, she was the daughter of Earl and Lydia Wilms Hughes. Doris grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm.

At age 10, while attending Crescent Lake Bible Camp in northern Wisconsin, Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior.

She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in journalism.

Doris was the managing editor of Horse World magazine, a national saddle horse publication, for five years.

She married Keith A. Hoelzen on January 28, 1956. Together they operated Triple H Ranch, a purebred Polled Hereford operation, for more than 35 years and showed cattle at major shows throughout the United States.

Doris was a High School teacher in Oakville for two years and realtor for over 30 years.

Survived by son, Hugh, daughter-in-law, Carolyn, and grandson, Jared.

The Graveside Committal Service for Doris will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Aspen Grove Cemetery, with former pastor and family friend, Dean Graber, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Cedarville University.

Betty Jean Everman, 88, of Burlington died December 21, 2018, at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis, Iowa. Born December 18, 1930 in Garden Grove, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harry G. Lang and Lura R. Thompson Lang.

On October 12, 1951, she married Karl C. Everman at Corydon, Iowa. Betty and Karl moved to Mediapolis in 1962 where they remained until his death in June 1994. Betty moved to Burlington shortly after.

Betty graduated from Allerton High School in 1948. She was a homemaker, beautician and worked many clerical jobs throughout her life.

Survivors include two daughters; Linda (Dan) Anderson of Burlington and Eve Steele of Mount
Pleasant; four grandchildren, Stacy, Tami, Corey and Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Abby, Lyla and Michael; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, Robert Lang, and a sister, Giovonna Lang.

A private graveside service with the family will be at the Kossuth Cemetery.

Robert Lee Hamann, age 79 of Morning Sun, died Friday December 21, 2018 at OSF HealthCare Center in Peoria, Illinois. The son of Edward and Ethel (Connolly) Hamann, he was born in rural Morning Sun. On May 22, 1963 he married Patricia Duffy at Morning Sun.
He was a graduate of the Morning Sun High School and attended auto mechanic trade school. He worked at Hawkeye Group in Mediapolis for several years.
He enjoyed trap shooting and was a former member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include; his wife of Morning Sun; one son Randall Hamann of Morning Sun; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one daughter and one granddaughter.
Cremation has been accorded and no services are being planned.
A memorial for local school youth trap shooting has been established.
