Obituaries for Saturday December 29th

Bill Venvertloh, 48, of Burlington, died at 9:45 AM Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born January 30, 1970, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Donald Lee and Gracie Ferguson Venvertloh. On October 10, 1998, he married Julie Heater in Burlington.

Bill was a Sergeant for the Burlington Police Department where he was employed for 21 years.

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1988. He was a 1995 graduate of Western Illinois University with a degree in criminal justice.

Bill enjoyed going over to his Grandma Lettie Mae’s house as a boy to help with chores because he knew he would be rewarded with a feast of wonderful, homemade food. Boy Scouts were important to Bill and he achieved the rank of Life Scout. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved time spent coaching baseball for his boys teams, playing cards, fantasy football and baseball. He loved golfing with his brothers, and cherished the brothers annual bowling tournament where the winner took home not only a trophy, but bragging rights for the next year.

Survivors include his parents; his wife; two sons, Jacob Venvertloh and Samuel Venvertloh; two brothers, Neal (Kara) Venvertloh of Burlington, Dave Venvertloh of Lakewood, CO; mother-in-law, Barb Heater of Burlington; father-in-law, Ed Heater of New London; one sister-in-law, Kim (Chad) Kerr of Jefferson City, MO; two nieces and one nephew, Kiley, Chelsey, and Koby Kerr.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and two uncles.

Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Bill will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium with Reverend Simeon Counterman and Jill Larkins officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his sons’ college education.

Delores E. Shoemate, 86, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 2:15 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, IA.

She was born on August 28, 1932 in Smithshire, IL the daughter of James A. and Mildred Paul Krow Sr. On October 25, 1951 she married John H. Shoemate in LaHarpe, IL. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2002.

Delores enjoyed cooking, embroidery, filling out number books and especially enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with family. She was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Newberry of Dallas City, three sons, Jeffrey (Becky) Shoemate of Fort Madison, James (Teresa) Shoemate of Burlington, IA and John (Angela Schroeder) Shoemate of Fort Madison, five grandchildren, Lowell Newberry, Kandi Jo Newberry, Jessica (Alan) Menke, Samantha Shoemate and Gracie Shoemate, five great-grandchildren and one on the way, one brother, Richard Krow of Dallas City, one sister, Bertha Blindt of Biggsville, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Sally Luder, son-in-law, Steve Newberry, two brothers, James Jr. and Harold Krow and one sister, Betty Kennebeck.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Larry Mencshel and Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery, Dallas City. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Banks & Beals where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established from the John Shoemate Memorial Kids Fishing Tournament or the Dallas City Disc Golf League. Donald Chamberlin, 61, of West Burlington died December 27, 2018 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at Walker Mortuary and Cremation Services in Freeport, IL at a later date. Cremation has been accorded. Lunning Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Howard Stimpson, 70, of Burlington, died at 7:26 pm Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.

Born October 27, 1948, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Earnest and Betty Gard Stimpson.

He was of Catholic faith and worked in advertising for several years.

Survivors include his sister, Sharon (Bob) Rady of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Per the families wishes, there will be a burial held at a later date at Carman Cemetery in Carman Il.
