This July tens of thousands of bicyclists will descend on Burlington for an overnight stay as part of the 347-mile RAGBRAI bicycle ride, and communities all around are looking at options for providing entertainment.

The Greater Burlington Partnership is planning an event on the Burlington riverfront on July 29th, and now the City of West Burlington may be planning to run their own event that night. Councilman Rod Crowner mentioned the possibility of having a downtown block party similar to their annual 4th of July party at Wednesday’s council meeting.

“I know Burlington is trying to get all these people to come downtown,” Crowner says he’d like to see people check out Burlington’s celebration then come back out and enjoy what West Burlington has to offer. “They can go see the river, but they need to come back out here, relax and spend their evening.”

The stage West Burlington normally uses is rented that night for the Des Moines County fair, but they’re looking at options to set up for a band that night.
