The City of Fort Madison is working with Viking Cruise lines on an “agreement to lease” becoming a stop on the Vikings new Mississippi River Cruise.

An Agreement to lease is a document stating the intentions of both parties and will be followed later by the actual Dock Lease once any questions or concerns are cleared up by either party.

This has been in progress for a while and the preliminary report from a city official indicates that a dock for a domestic Viking Cruise line stop in Fort Madison could cost the city $1.2 million. The investment of building the dock will be recouped by the tourism brought into the city.
