A second man has plead guilty in the death of Demarcus Chew.

After a plea deal, Andre Harris plead guilty to Willful Injury, Conspiracy to Commit a Forcible Felony and Gang Activity at a hearing on Friday. The deal calls for two 5-year sentences and a 10-year sentence to be served consecutively for a total of 20 years though the actual sentence will not be known until Harris’ August 26th sentencing hearing.

As part of pleading guilty, Harris admitted that in September 2017, he and several others followed Chew from Gulfport, Illinois to his Burlington home where a member of the groups shot Chew. Harris said Chew was killed so the Black Pirates gang could collect money from a hit that was taken out against him.

Three other defendants in the case are still awaiting trial.

Harris’s plea marks the third plea deal in the county accepted by a person accused of murder this year. The other two individuals who were charged with murder but were able to plea to a lesser offense are Antoine Spann, who plead guilty to the same charges as Harris in connection with Chew’s Death, and Kaylee Wilson, plead guilty to Voluntary manslaughter and armed with intent after she stabbed Mallory Doak.
