Yesterday, the jury in the case of Majestic Malone and Markell Price came back with guilty verdicts on both counts, but on lesser charges.
In Iowa, First Degree Murder and First Degree Kidnapping both require life sentences. Second Degree Murder and Third Degree Kidnapping, both lesser charges, have reduced sentences.
For Second Degree murder, a class B felony carries a penalty of up to fifty years. Third Degree Kidnapping, a Class C felony carries a penalty of up to 10 years. A judge can order the sentences be served consecutively or concurrently. Both Kidnapping and Murder are forcible felonies and Price and Malone will have to serve seventy percent of their sentences before they can be paroled.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
