Lucinda I. Heater, 76, of Burlington died Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at her home at Burlington Care Center.
Born April 16, 1943 in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Paul E. and Ethel I. (Pforts) Heater. She married James Hammer April 6, 1964, they later divorced. She them married Tom Edmonds in June of 1985, they later divorced.
Lucy was a nurse, medical aide and then a housekeeper for Danville Care Center until her retirement in 1996.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to make jewelry and pillows out of wash rags. She collected frogs and loved working on the farm with her second husband and meals and time spent with family.
Survivors include two daughters Renee (Damion) Piper of Phoenix, Arizona and Glenna Nordstrom of Burlington; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene (Cheryl) Heater of Mt. Pleasant, Ed (Cindy) Heater of New London and Howard (Debbie) Heater of Danville; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
The memorial funeral service for Lucy will be 5:30 p.m. Friday, September 13th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Long Creek Cemetery on Saturday, September 14th. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial has been established.
According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Mr. Robert H. “Bob” Frank, 93, of Burlington, died at 1:37 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Burlington, IA.
Born February 5, 1926 in Burlington, he was the son of Lewis Sr. and Mathilda (Wagler) Frank. He married Donna Garmoe on November 15, 1952.
Robert was a farmer and worked as a machinist at Beames Welding.
He was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Donna Frank of Burlington; five daughters, Karen Duncan of FL, Debbie Boggs of KY, Connie (Craig) Schmidt, Robin Frank both of Burlington, and Michelle (Darin) Hauswirth of Sperry, IA; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Marilyn Anderson of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.
Family will receive friends 1:00-1:45 p.m. Saturday, September 14th at Lunning Chapel, followed by processional to Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery, where a graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m.

Jeremy Allen Hoover, age 37 of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 10:16 a.m. Tuesday September 10, 2019 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born June 29, 1982 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Billy Charles and Melinda Kay Thomason Hoover.

Jeremy had worked for several years at REC Recycling in Stronghurst. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, music, and especially enjoyed spending time with his son.

Survivors include his son, Dakota Hoover of Stronghurst, his parents, Billy and Melinda Hoover of Stronghurst, one sister, Olivia Hoover of Stronghurst, grandfather, George Vaughn of Mediapolis, Iowa, and grandmother, Dorothy Hoover of Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Bonnie Vaughn and paternal grandfather, Charles Hoover.

Patricia A. “Pat” Schier, 82, of Burlington died 5:45 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home.
Born January 15, 1937 in Altamont, Missouri the daughter of Willard and Lydia (Horton) Brown. She married Joseph Schier Sr. on June 11, 1955. He died July 10, 1989.
Pat worked for Vista Bakery. After her retirement she continued to work for Farm King.
She loved being outside sitting on her deck in the hot sun, taking care of her flowers and shopping.
Survivors include her four children; Debbie Cantazaro of Mesa, Arizona, Deanne Schier, Joseph (Tracy) Schier Jr. and Patty Jo (Steve) Hellberg all of Burlington; ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Bill Brown and one grandson T.J. Elmore.
The visitation for Mrs. Schier will be from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 13th in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation and has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Linda Kay Siefken, 71 of Burlington, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Great River Medical Center.
Born July 21, 1948 in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of LeRoy “Herman” and Marjorie (Lange) Siefken.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- SS John and Paul Catholic Church.
Linda loved dogs and enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include one sister, Peggy (Bill) Wirt; one brother, Gary (Peggy) Siefken; three nephews, Andy (Nicolette) Siefken, Matt (Alicia) Siefken, and Joe (Jennifer) Siefken; one niece, Jessica Wirt; four great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12th at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul Catholic Church. The Very Reverend Father Marty Goetz will be celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The rosary will be recited 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11th with visitation following 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Lunning Chapel.

Franklin Earl Newsom III, 47, of Dallas, passed away at 5:08 PM Monday, September 2, 2019, in Texas.

Born March 5, 1972, in Columbus, OH, he was the son of Franklin Earl Newsom and Beverly “BJ” Jean Savage Newsom. On July 6, 1991, he married Shawna DeWeber.

Franklin worked as a construction worker and a plumber.

Franklin was a free spirit who enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his father, Franklin Earl (Vicky) Newsom, Jr. of Burlington, mother, Beverly “BJ” Jean Newsom, step-mother, Marjory Ruth Wyatt, wife, Shawna Newsom of Las Vegas, two daughters, Rayana Newsom of Las Vegas and Asia Adams of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren: Brielle, Antonio, Alex and Raiden; three step-brothers, David Ward, Jason Ward and Tony Ward, two step-sisters, Jeanene (Marsha) Wyatt-Richards and Kellie Ward; one uncle, Kevin Newsom, one uncle, Kevin Newsom; six aunts: Carol Newsom-Huston, Sandra Kail, Linda Clum, Sharon Newsom, Beverly Newsom and Diane Newsom; and one nephew, Freedom Mills.

Franklin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Christine Savage, paternal grandparents, Franklin Earl Newson Sr. and Georgeanna Scott-Newsom, one sister, T’an Marie Newsom, one brother, Travis Earl Newsom, and two aunts, Penny Konhler and Gloria Jean McNeil.

Per the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services at this time.

Deanne Sue Leu, 72, of Fairfield, died Sunday, September 8, 2019 at her home.
The funeral service for will be 11:00 Friday at Elliott Chapel, New London with Rev. Diane Brokken officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 until the time of the service. James Edgar Wills, 90, of Burlington, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Great River Hospice House.
Born August 15, 1929 in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Horace Edgar and Virginia Lou (Finke) Wills. He married Shirley Ann Bohle October 17, 1954 in Burlington.
James graduated from Burlington High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as PVT 1st Class. He worked as an engineer for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ.
He was a member of Des Moines Lodge #1 A.F. & A.M., Kaaba Shrine Temple, 32° Mason, and the Iowa- Illinois Amateur Radio Club.
He was a Chicago Cubs fan, Minnesota Vikings fan and animal lover, especially his boxers. He loved time spent with family.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wills of Burlington; two daughters, Vicki K. (Jim) Stinemates of West Burlington and Tamra D. Darnall of Burlington; two granddaughters, Bailey Darnall and Whitney (Chris) Beals; one great-granddaughter, Veda Beals; and one brother, Charles Wills of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.
The funeral service for Mr. Wills will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12th at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Peggy Stott will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11th at Lunning Chapel with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m.

Wayne J. Hartman, 95, passed away on September 8, 2019 surrounded by his family at Great River Hospice House.

Born in Lebanon, IA, on April 11, 1924 he was the son of Charles (Swede) Harold and Evelyn (Ellen) Wire Hartman. He grew up living in his grandparents’ home in Cantril, IA. Later, Wayne and his parents moved to Burlington.

He married the love of his life, Martha Mae Willson on February 9, 1951. They met by chance one day when Martha got off work at Schramms and was waiting for the bus. Friends introduced them, Wayne offered her a ride home and they were inseparable ever since. They has many wonderful years together before Martha was diagnosed with Alzhiemers. Wayne cared for her faithfully until his health no longer allowed him to.

Wayne graduated from BHS and then was drafted to serve in WWII. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in England, France and Germany. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was in the 404th fighter squadron. Upon his return to the U.S., he finished college earning an engineering degree. He was first employed by Burlington Instrument Co. and later the IAAP. He was instrumental in the design of the Iowa Loader. He retired from the IAAP after a 30 year career.

Wayne was a quiet man who devoted his time to his family. He worked hard to provide a great life for his wife and daughters. He loved new inventions and marveled how today’s cars can answer phones and give you direction to anyplace you want to go. Wayne’s mind was still sharp and he loved sharing Air Force stories, reminiscing about teaching his daughters to ride their first bikes an going on family drives. In his spare time he was a master of calligraphy writing. Every birthday card and letter always had his special lettering. He loved new cars, big band music, football, WWII documentaries and most of all his family.

He is survived by three daughters, Vicki (John) Cameron of Shawnee, KS, Nancy Hartman of Olathe, KS and Cammy (Duane) Kelley of Burlington, one brother, Bruce Hartman of Bovey, MN; three grandchildren, Paul Cameron of Leawood, KS, Brynn (Brandon) Brinkman of Gardner, KS and Ruth (Adam) Bennett of Neosho, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Rhett Bennett and arriving soon, Valerie Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and parents.

The family would like to thank Dr. Niehaus, the second floor nurses at Great River Medical Center and especially the Hospice staff. We greatly appreciated your support and care.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Per his wishes, there will be no visitation and a private service will be held at a later date.
