Burlington Ia- The Hawkeye reports that the Locust sewer separation project is underway. City officials say the project will take up to a year to fully complete as the construction continues up locust street. The project will cause portions of roads to be closed at a time. According to Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Don Fittings, the locust project is more extensive because “what they’re doing is adding a new, correctly sized sanitary pipe.” Burlington is under an order from the Iowa Department of Natural resources to separate its sewers and must do so within the next 6 years. The project may cost up to $50 million but the city is hoping to get an extension.
