Hydrant Flushing

Burlington, Ia- The Burlington Municipal Waterworks will begin flushing all fire hydrants this week and will continue for the next 5-6 weeks. During this time residents may experience temporary low pressures or discolored water.

For those customers with a water meter, letting the water run will increase the amount of your bill. Additionally, customers may notice a slight chlorine odor as the Waterworks will be disinfecting with free chlorine during the flushing process and returning to chloramines for disinfecting when finished.

If discolored water is experienced, the Waterworks suggests residents let their cold water run in a sink or bathtub, capable of draining the flow, for up to 20 minutes. If the problem still persists, please notify the Waterworks Office, or after hours, notify the Water Treatment Plant.
