West Burlington Losing First Responders

West Burlington, Ia (The Hawk Eye)— The Hawk Eye reports that the West Burlington emergency services are down a total of four first responders.

As of this week, three volunteer firefighters and one police officer have left the city. The police officer and two firefighters quit. Another firefighter was dismissed for not fulfilling her duties as a volunteer firefighter.

The resignation of officer Edward Parker will put the West Burlington Police Department down two officers, and a third officer is planning to leave in the spring.

City Administrator Dan Gifford said the department already has accepted applications and soon will put the applicants through testing. Gifford is hopeful the city will be able to find three qualified candidates.

The West Burlington Fire Department operates on a volunteer basis. About 18 West Burlington citizens volunteer for the fire department.  If anyone is interested in joining the West Burlington Fire Department, contact city hall for more information.
