Fire Prevention Week

Burlington, Ia-  Burlington Fire Department announced that this week marks the 98th annual Fire Prevention Week.

This year’s theme is not all heroes wear capes, plan and practice your escape. The theme encourages kids to discuss a fire escape plan with their families, and know what to do if they are ever caught in a fire.

Burlington’s firefighters will spend time throughout the week working on fire prevention. Next week, children from schools across the region will be taught fire safety while touring area fire stations.

According to the National Fire Prevention Council Website, Fire Prevention Week began in the year 1922 in commemoration of the Chicago Fire and was made a nationally observed event in 1925 by President Calvin Coolidge.
